My goal was to focus on making concept art, and with that, challenge myself and improve my skills in digital painting.

Since I wanted to make my project using mixed media, I thought I would have the style and medium match the emotions I would like to convey.

While these first concept art pieces were just based on my memories, I looked up references of oak leaves for the trees.
The first memory that came to mind is when my best friend and I went up to the mountain close to home and decided that a tree is ours now.

It was peaceful. Secluded.

The long branches reached the ground and sat there, surrounding us with leaves.

We used to spend so much time under our tree.

I kept going with the mixed media idea. In both the finished painting and progress photos, my photography is visible.

I cut flyers, stickers and ads out of my photos that had them in the background.
I then went on to paint on them, decorate the pub mirror and create a more cohesive look.

I continued using mixed media. Since my project depicts memories and I started with peaceful ones, I wanted to work on some that are everything, but that.

Before we turned 18, we would go to this small shop to buy alcohol. The shop owner was always preoccupied with activities that normal people do not do in public.

The only rule he had was to hide the alcohol before we left the store in our backpacks.

Since then, the store has been closed down.

This is the last concept art I made that depicts chaos. I wanted it to be based on times of my life growing up when either at the time, or looking back, I am just so full of confusion.

I based it on pictures I found on my phone from my teenage years, that absolutely baffled me or are just connected to situations I got myself into that seem surreal.
To depict this feeling of being dazed and lost, I mixed in some of my photography and ink textures I made. This also helped to create a more textured, less smooth and digital look.

After making this painting, I decided to start focusing on more nostalgic pieces and rely completely on painting.

We would always ignore the warnings and climb out as far as possible to have a nice view of the city.

This became the style reference for the rest of my project.

When I started working on this painting, I had a clear idea in mind. I decided that instead of doing a sketch, I would start painting.
There was a freedom in having no clear sketch of a plan. It had me feel more like I was painting and could experiement. Try out different ideas and if it does not look right, change it. I did the rest of my work with this ‘trial and error’ method.

Originally I based this concept art on a picture I had of my friends in Buda Castle. While I was painting the place transformed into a mix of the castle, the Gellért-mountain, and the park next to my house.

Snow has always been something I found happiness and comfort in, so it ended up being a part of a painting that blends places that represent the same for me.

We would drive past by this bus stop right at the edge of a forest when going into town from my childhood home.

There was no way for the bus to stop on the highway, even if someone managed to traverse through the forest for it.

Since we would always go look at cherry blossoms when they were in bloom, I wanted to include those and make this otherwise useless bus stop feel a bit magical.

Like it always did in my mind.

As a child, I would have this recurring dream of my grandparents’ house. I imagined a slide in the village, that launched me up in to the sky.

I went back to mixed media for this concept art, partly because of my grandparents, who always loved traditional art, and partly because I planned this to be the last concept art and wanted to go back to my project’s roots.

I printed out a couple of frames of a video I took years ago in Hungary, and painted over it with gouache, watercolour, acrylic paint and pens.

I did some colour grading and put it back together to create a gittery stop motion animation.
